A court on Thursday set December 8 for submitting the investigation report in the case filed over the murder of popular film star Salman Shah.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order after the investigating officer failed to submit the report.
Salman Shah’s maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir, popularly known as Alamgir Kumkum, filed the case against 11 people, including the actor’s wife, Samira Haque, at Ramna Police Station in Dhaka on October 21, 2025. The case was filed under Sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code.
The other accused are Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Samira’s mother Latifa Haque Lusi, Don, David, Zaved, Faruk, Ruby, A Sattar, Saju and Rijvi Ahmed Farhad.
Earlier, on October 20, 2025, Dhaka’s 6th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque directed the officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station to treat the case concerning the death of Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar (Emon), popularly known as Salman Shah, as a murder case and submit a report accordingly.
In its order, the court also cancelled and revoked the unnatural death case through an order dated October 31, 2021.
According to the case statement, on September 6, 1996, Salman Shah’s mother, Nilufar Zaman Chowdhury, popularly known as Neela Chowdhury, his father, the late Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, and his younger brother, Shahraan Shah, went to his residence in New Eskaton to meet him.
Upon their arrival, Salman’s wife, Samira, and a domestic aide named Abul told them that he was asleep. Film producer Siddique had also gone there to meet the actor. His parents then told Samira that they would meet him on their way to Sylhet.
Later that day, production manager Selim called Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, informing him that something had happened to Salman and urging the family to rush to his residence.
When Neela, her husband and their younger son arrived, they found Salman lying motionless in his bedroom, while several unidentified women were rubbing oil on his hands and feet.
In another room, Samira’s relative Ruby, who ran the nearby Mayfair Beauty Parlour, was sitting.
Salman’s mother screamed and urged those present to take her son to hospital immediately. At one point, an acquaintance of Samira reportedly shouted at her, saying, “You get out of my house.”
His parents then rushed him towards Holy Family Hospital. On the way, they noticed rope marks on his neck and that his face and legs had turned blue.
His mother insisted that he be taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, saying he had died some time earlier.
Following the incident, Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury initially filed an unnatural death case.
On July 24, 1997, Salman Shah’s father filed a petition with the court alleging that his son had been murdered and seeking registration of a case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
“As Salman’s father — my brother-in-law — has passed away, I am pursuing the case on behalf of my sister under the power of attorney vested in me,” the complainant said.
