Pori Moni served legal notice for 'assaulting' journalists, 'insulting national anthem'

The notice raises allegations over a post published on Pori Moni's verified Facebook page on 6 November 2026, which allegedly used Bangladesh's national anthem as music in an obscene post.

Actress Pori Moni has been served a legal notice over allegations of assaulting and abusing journalists, snatching a reporter’s mobile phone, damaging recording equipment as well as insulting the national anthem on social media.

Supreme Court Advocate Khundkar Hasan Shahriyar of the company Advocate Hasan and Associates sent the notice by post on Sunday, demanding that Pori Moni issue an unconditional written apology within seven days for an incident on the court premises on 5 November.

The incident took place when Pori Moni surrendered before a court and secured bail in a case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud in 2021. According to the notice, journalists tried to take photographs and videos of her as she got out of her car at around 11:40am and headed towards the courtroom. A scuffle subsequently broke out between the journalists and her security guards.

The notice alleges that Pori Moni snatched the mobile phone of Samakal multimedia reporter Robiul Hossain Raju, while her security guards broke the tripod he was using to record videos.

Several journalists were injured in the incident, including Ashikuzzaman, multimedia reporter Abdullah Al Kawsar, Agamir Somoy reporter Siam Hossain and Shah Riaz of Times Today, the notice states. A court service-seeker, Sujan Chandra Moni Das, was also injured. Reports published in various media outlets said he sustained a head injury that caused bleeding.

The notice further alleges that after leaving the court, Pori Moni charged towards Robiul and verbally abused him using obscene language, while also threatening to kill him.

It mentions that Robiul has a congenitally smaller right hand and is missing three fingers, which prevents him from using the hand normally.

Video footage of the incident was also broadcast by various media outlets, according to the notice.

Describing the alleged conduct as an attack on the professional dignity of a journalist, the notice says such behaviour also threatens independent journalism and an environment conducive to the media's professional responsibilities. It adds that such conduct is not expected from a film actress.

The notice says ensuring everyone's safety on court premises is the responsibility of the state and the administration.

Private security personnel cannot be allowed to control the court environment or demonstrate muscle power there, it adds.

Besides demanding an apology, the notice calls on Pori Moni to refrain from making obscene statements or using obscene dialogue, issuing threats, engaging in obscene performances and gestures, and performing nude or semi-nude dances in the future.

It also asks her to refrain from activities that can be recorded and displayed through films, videos, audio-visual content, still images, graphics or any other medium if they have no artistic or educational value.

The notice also raises allegations over a post published on Pori Moni's verified Facebook page on 6 November 2026, which allegedly used Bangladesh's national anthem as music in an obscene post.

The matter was subsequently reported by various media outlets and spread across social media platforms. The notice says various negative reactions to the post were also seen in the comment sections of the published reports.

Separately, the notice requests the president and general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association to issue a show-cause notice to Pori Moni within seven days and take necessary disciplinary action against her. It warns that appropriate legal action will be taken otherwise.
