Prime Minister’s Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman on Tuesday labeled national team all-rounder and former MP of the ousted Awami League government Shakib Al Hasan ‘a rotten human being’ and said he will get protection if he returns to the country to fight the cases against him.
“He [Shakib] might be a good cricketer, but he is a rotten human being,” Zahed said in a press conference at the Secretariat.
“A man who was aligned with Hasina and is still aligned with her. He also gave a speech on the 5th. We don’t care how famous he is. He says such nonsense to put the government under some pressure,” he added.
Shakib had recently told Reuters in an interview that he is ready to face trial on charges made against him, and play a farewell series if the government guarantees his safety.
Zahed dismissed his statement as propaganda and said the government does not care about his speeches.
“Again, I say, if he comes to Bangladesh to face the law, would the people mob him? Does he feel that, does anyone of us think so? No way.
“He will have to come here, and will have to face all the allegations against him under protection. If he follows all legal regulations and arrives, I don’t see any problem in that.
“All such speeches are propaganda against our government. A person who is still aligned with Hasina, will say things like this, we don’t care.”
