Bangladesh have sustained their dominance over Australia two sessions into the second day of the first Test thanks to Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s maiden ton and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s unbeaten half-century, as they are leading the hosts by 88 runs at Tea at the Marrara Stadium in Darwin on Friday.

Tanzid became the first Bangladeshi to score a Test ton on Australian soil, making 101 off 197 deliveries, while Shanto remained unbeaten on 79 alongside Mushfiqur Rahim (26), as Bangladesh reached 286-3 at the end of the second session.

Bangladesh had resumed the session on 181-2, trailing Australia by just 17 runs.

The visitors quickly went ended the deficit against an Australian attack which looked toothless throughout the session.

The lone success post-lunch came to off-spinner Nathan Lyon, thanks to a lapse in concentration from Tanzid.

After completing his ton, Tanzid tried to let loose against Lyon, attempting to hit a straight six but ended up sending the ball straight to Mitchell Starc at long-off.

The wicket ended a 92-run stand between him and Shanto. The veteran Mushfiqur Rahim then joined his skipper.

The duo picked up the scoring rate late in the session, adding 55 runs off 75 balls for the fourth wicket till now.

Shanto looked positive from the onset, hitting seven fours and one six till now while Mushfiqur also hit the ground running, has hit three boundaries so far.

This is the first time Bangladesh have taken a lead in a Test in Australian soil.
