Bangladesh's stunning nine-wicket victory over Australia in Darwin continues to earn recognition across world cricket, with Wisden becoming the latest to honour the result, days after the International Cricket Council had already included it among four landmark Bangladesh wins.
Wisden posted a list on its official Facebook page featuring seven unexpected Test victories from the current decade, with three of them involving Bangladesh. The Darwin triumph is joined on the list by Bangladesh's historic wins from 2022 and 2024.
The 2024 result saw Bangladesh complete a 2-0 series sweep over Pakistan on Pakistani soil, with Najmul Hossain Shanto's side finally ending a long-standing drought against their opponents in their own conditions.
The other victory dates back to 2022 in Mount Maunganui, where Bangladesh beat New Zealand by eight wickets for their first Test win in the country, Ebadot Hossain earning player of the match honours with seven wickets in the match, including a career-best 6 for 46 in the second innings.
Wisden captioned its post: "Bangladesh stunned Australia with a nine-wicket win in Darwin, their first Test victory down under. Here are seven unexpected Test victories over the past decade."
The accompanying set of images opened with a collage of Rishabh Pant and Hasan Mahmud.
Afghanistan's 224-run win over Bangladesh in the 2019 Chattogram Test also featured among the seven, a result that came as a surprise given rain had appeared to be steering the match towards a draw before Afghanistan secured victory in their first-ever Test meeting with Bangladesh.
Six of the seven results on the list involved either Bangladesh or India, with Bangladesh accounting for four appearances and India two.
India's win over Australia at the Gabba in 2021, built on Rishabh Pant's heroics and central to their Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph, also made the cut, alongside New Zealand's surprise 3-0 series sweep of India on Indian soil in 2024.
West Indies' dramatic eight-run win over Australia at the Gabba in 2024 rounded out the list, a result driven by Shamar Joseph's eight wickets in the match, including 7 for 68 in the second innings, form that also earned him the player of the series award.
The second Test of the series begins in Mackay on 22 August.
