Mackay day two tickets also sold out

Tickets for the second day of the Mackay Test between Australia and Bangladesh have sold out, Cricket Australia has confirmed, with interest in the series still climbing after Bangladesh's stunning win in Darwin.

Australian media had written Bangladesh off as mere minnows before the series began, but that tag did not survive long.

A record Darwin crowd watched the tourists complete a nine wicket victory, and praise has poured in from across the cricketing world since.

That result sent demand for the Mackay Test soaring. All tickets for the opening day at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Australia's twelfth Test venue, were gone within moments, four days before a ball was bowled.

Play finally got under way on Saturday, August 22, and the hype was justified almost immediately.

Eighteen wickets fell across a frantic first day. Mitchell Starc tore through the Bangladesh order to finish with six, as the visitors were bowled out for just 64. Shoriful Islam hit straight back with a six wicket haul of his own.

Shoriful reduced Australia to 41 for three before striking again late in the day. The hosts slid from 145 for four to 148 for eight, though they steadied to close on a 101 run lead with two wickets still standing.

With the contest still wide open, Bangladesh have not been shut out of the match despite trailing on first innings.

That uncertainty has driven ticket sales for day two just as high as they were for the opener.

Cricket Australia confirmed the news on Facebook: 'All public tickets are sold out for the second Test between Australia and Bangladesh in Mackay.'
