Shoriful Islam will miss out on a spell of English county cricket after the Bangladesh Cricket Board declined to grant him a No Objection Certificate, with fellow pacer Khaled Ahmed set to take his place at Kent instead.

The left arm seamer had been due to join Hasan Mahmud in the Kent dressing room, having impressed for the county in the ongoing Championship season.

The BCB, however, cited workload management, an already congested international calendar and Shoriful's recent recovery from a hamstring injury as reasons for the refusal.

BCB cricket operations in charge Shahriar Nafees confirmed the decision to Cricbuzz on Tuesday, August 25.

"Shoriful was not given NOC considering his workload and upcoming international assignments, because in the next three months we have five Tests, seven T20s, and six ODIs," he said.

Nafees explained that Shoriful's involvement across all three formats made the calculation especially delicate.

"Shoriful is the kind of player who plays all formats. Plus he's just coming back from a hamstring injury," he said.

"So if we give him an NOC for 4 county matches, the amount of pressure that will put on his body, we're concerned he might not be fully fit for all those (international) matches," Nafees added.

The call was not made in isolation, with input sought from both the team management and medical staff before the final decision.

"That's why the team management and medical department feel it's more important for him to train rather than play, and be fit and ready for the international matches," Nafees said.

Bangladesh's other seam bowling option, Khaled Ahmed, has fared better in his own request, receiving clearance to play County Championship cricket for Kent instead.

Nafees said the decision reflected Khaled's fitness and lighter recent workload.

"Khaled was given an NOC for Kent as he is fully fit and hasn't played too many matches in the recent past," he said, pointing to the contrast between the two bowlers' current physical conditions.
