The India-Bangladesh white-ball series is likely to be pushed back to January next year, according to a report by Indian media outlet ANI on Thursday, with discussions between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian government still ongoing and the originally proposed September window increasingly uncertain.
A BCCI source told ANI that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is now seeking a suitable slot at the start of 2027.
"The India-Bangladesh series is likely to be held in January. Discussions with the government are still ongoing, while the BCB is now looking for a window early next year," the source said.
The series has already been deferred once. India were originally scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August 2025, before the visit was postponed and a new September 2026 window was set.
The BCB announced in January this year that India would play three ODIs and three T20Is across Dhaka and Chattogram, though the BCCI never made an official announcement confirming the schedule.
Complicating matters further, Afghanistan are set to play a three-match T20I series against India on 13, 15 and 17 September at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, overlapping with the window the BCB had earmarked from 1 to 13 September.
BCB president Tamim Iqbal acknowledged the uncertainty when speaking to reporters earlier this month.
"The two boards are discussing the India series. The timing may change," he said, adding that the BCB remained in regular communication with the BCCI and that any venue arrangements could be adjusted quickly once a schedule was confirmed.
Relations between the two boards had deteriorated sharply earlier this year after Kolkata Knight Riders withdrew Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL squad.

The situation worsened when the then BCB administration, led by Aminul Islam, refused to send Bangladesh to the T20 World Cup co-hosted by India unless their matches were relocated, ultimately resulting in Bangladesh's withdrawal from the tournament.
The diplomatic frost showed signs of thawing after Tamim took charge as BCB president and visited India earlier this month, touring the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru in what was widely read as a gesture of goodwill.
However, political tensions between the two countries resurfaced following a press conference held by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from India, casting a fresh shadow over bilateral cricket relations.
The BCCI has yet to issue any official statement on the rescheduled tour.
