The Bangladesh Cricket Board have named their squad for the upcoming Asian Games on Wednesday, with the country sending a full strength group to compete in the T20 cricket event being held in Japan later this month.

Litton Das returns to lead the side after recovering from the injury that ruled him out of Bangladesh's recent series against Zimbabwe, with Towhid Hridoy retained as his deputy for the tournament in Aichi Nagoya.

Perhaps the most notable inclusion is Najmul Hossain Shanto, who returns to the T20I fold after an absence stretching back 15 months, having last featured for Bangladesh in the format back in May of last year.

Yasir Ali Chowdhury also keeps his place following a half century during the tour of Zimbabwe, while Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Hasan Mahmud round out a pace attack that carries plenty of recent international experience heading into the tournament.

Nahid Rana misses out, however, with the fast bowler yet to fully recover from injury, while Taskin Ahmed, Nurul Hasan Sohan and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain have also been left out of the travelling party for the Games.

Ten teams will feature in the cricket event at this year's Asian Games, with Bangladesh entering directly at the quarter final stage alongside fellow Test playing nations India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, bypassing the opening round entirely.

The remaining six sides, Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal and Oman, will contest a preliminary round split across two groups, with four teams advancing from that stage into the knockout phase of the competition.

As one of four seeded nations, Bangladesh will face the winners of Group B in their quarter final, a section made up of Hong Kong, Malaysia and Oman, once the opening round has been completed later this month.

The tournament gets under way on 24 September at Korogi Sports Park in Aichi Prefecture and continues through to 3 October, with Bangladesh's opening fixture pencilled in for 29 September.

Should Litton's side progress beyond the last eight, they would move into the semi final on 1 October, with both the gold and bronze medal matches then scheduled to take place on the tournament's closing day of 3 October.

Bangladesh are expected to face stiff competition for a place on the podium, with both India and Pakistan also naming strong squads for the Games, though Afghanistan have opted to rest several first choice players ahead of the tournament.

That decision from Afghanistan is likely to ease Bangladesh's path somewhat in the group phase, though India and Sri Lanka remain the sides most likely to stand between Litton's team and a medal finish come early October.
