The Bangladesh men’s cricket team will tour Nepal for a bilateral series for the first time ever in next year’s March, in a series dedicated to the memory of people who lost their lives in the recent devastating floods in Nepal.

The matches will be played in Kathmandu on March 26, 28 and 30.

Talks for the series began when Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, broached the matter during a recent meeting with State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque.

The series was confirmed soon after the Nepalese ambassador met with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal on Wednesday. 

The cricket board responded positively to the proposal; however, because of the national team’s jam-packed schedule, it decided to send them next year.

“The BCB expressed its sympathy for the victims of the devastating floods and recognised the significance of dedicating the series to their memory. The three matches will provide an opportunity for Bangladesh and Nepal to come together through cricket and convey a message of friendship and solidarity at a time of great loss,” the BCB statement read.

“The BCB also assured the Nepal Cricket Association of its continued cooperation and support in the broader development of cricket in Nepal. The areas of collaboration will include exchange of men’s and women’s tours, High Performance programmes, training and technical support and other development initiatives that can benefit players and cricket personnel of both countries,” it concluded.
