Bangladesh won the second session of day three in Abu Dhabi on October 11, reaching 124 for three at tea in their second innings. Their lead over Afghanistan stands at 230 runs, with Mushfiqur Rahim unbeaten on 48 and Shanto on 23.

Mushfiqur, out for a duck in the first innings, looked fluent throughout. He and Shanto, the current and former captains, reached fifty off 83 balls and were unbroken on 71 at the interval, steadily extending the advantage.

Shanto was less comfortable at the crease, surviving two lbw appeals. One went his way on umpire’s call, and the other after a late review showed the ball would have missed the stumps. Afghanistan had only one review remaining by then.

Tanzid Hasan resumed after lunch on 25 and added six before playing at a back-of-a-length delivery from Yamin Ahmadzai and being caught at second slip. He made 31 off 38 balls, with six fours, leaving Bangladesh 53 for three.

Earlier in the day, Afghanistan resumed on 211 for four, 135 behind, with Rahmat Shah on 84. Ebadot Hossain bowled Ikram Alikhil through the gate to end an 80-run stand, and Hasan Mahmud then took the first Bangladeshi pacer’s Test hat-trick, finishing with five for 55 as Ebadot claimed four for 56.

Afghanistan lost six wickets for 29 runs, with the last four batters out for ducks, despite Rahmat’s unbeaten 105 off 216 balls, his fourth Test hundred and first as captain.

Bangladesh’s reply lost two wickets before the lunch break.

Shadman Islam fell to a Salim short ball for the second time in the match, caught at deep square leg for 13, and Mominul Haque edged Yamin Ahmadzai to first slip for seven in the final over before lunch.
