Left-arm spinner Nahida Akter is set to succeed Nigar Sultana Joty as Bangladesh’s next captain in Women’s T20Is, reports Cricbuzz.
“We sat with members of the selection panel along with others and decided to hand over the T20I captaincy to Nahida. Sobhana Mostary will be her deputy,” Cricbuzz quoted BCB women’s wing chairman Rafiqul Islam.
Joty stepped down from the WT20I captaincy after the Asian Games women’s team event last month, where Bangladesh failed to secure a medal.
The wicketkeeper-batter had announced her decision before the Games in Japan, saying she wanted to focus more on her individual performances.
Nahida, who had served as Joty’s deputy since 2022, had emerged as the frontrunner to replace her.
Bangladesh’s next assignment is the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand, where they are scheduled to begin their campaign against Pakistan on November 12.
