Bangladesh fined for slow over-rate against Zimbabwe

Staff Correspondent

Bangladesh have been fined five percent of their match fees for slow over-rate in their opening match of the tri-series against Zimbabwe at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

Match referee David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Bangladesh were ruled to be one over short of the required rate after time allowances were taken into account.

‘Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time,’ stated ICC in a press release.

Bangladesh’s stand-in captain Tawhid Hridoy pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction.

Bangladesh lost the match by 99 runs against Zimbabwe. They will face Afghanistan on Wednesday at the same venue.
