Shadab’s clutch century, record last-wicket stand script Pakistan’s one-wicket heist

Pakistan recovered from 154-9 to beat England by one wicket in the ODI tri-series in Lahore on Sunday, with Shadab Khan scoring a record-breaking unbeaten century and sharing a match-winning last-wicket partnership with Haris Rauf.

Shadab struck 113 not out off 96 balls as Pakistan chased down a target of 242 at Gaddafi Stadium, reaching 243-9 in 47.1 overs with 17 balls to spare. The all-rounder was named player of the match.

Pakistan's victory came after a dramatic collapse left them needing 88 runs with only one wicket remaining. Shadab and Rauf then put on an unbeaten 89-run partnership, the highest for the 10th wicket in a successful ODI chase, to turn the match around.

Shadab became only the third batter to score an ODI century at No.8 or lower. His maiden international hundred came off 92 balls, and he finished with 13 fours and five sixes, taking control of the chase after Pakistan had lost nine wickets.

Rauf contributed an unbeaten seven off 19 balls, carefully supporting Shadab as Pakistan edged towards the target. The match ended when Rauf struck Henry Crocombe for four in the 48th over, completing a remarkable recovery.

Pakistan had been in serious trouble at 31-3 after losing Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub and Babar Azam inside seven overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Saad Baig counter-attacked with 32 off 22 balls, but England continued to take wickets as soon had Pakistan nine down inside 34 overs.

Jamie Overton claimed three wickets for England, while Liam Dawson and Gus Atkinson took two each. Shadab held his nerve despite the mounting pressure, eventually guiding Pakistan to their third consecutive win in the tri-series.

Earlier, Ben Duckett scored 105 off 111 balls to anchor England's innings after the visitors slumped to 19-3. He shared a 93-run stand with Sam Curran, who made 42, before Pakistan's bowlers regained control.

Shaheen Shah Afridi led the attack with four wickets, while Arafat Minhas and debutant Razaullah claimed two apiece as England were bowled out for 241 in 46.4 overs. Gus Atkinson added an unbeaten 36 to help the visitors reach a competitive total.

Pakistan had earlier won their opening two matches, beating Sri Lanka by 37 runs and England by 87 runs in Rawalpindi.

With three wins in as many matches, the hosts have already sealed a place in the final.

Sri Lanka are second in the points table with one win – the incredible two-wicket victory over England chasing 430 – and one defeat – the 37-run loss to the hosts Pakistan.

England are last with three defeats in as many games.

Pakistan is next scheduled to face Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The final is set for October 31.
