No Mushfiqur as Bangladesh opt to bat first

Staff Correspondent

Injured veteran Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim has been left out of the playing XI as Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first against West Indies in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.

Mushfiqur had hurt his hand while batting during Tuesday’s practice session and has failed to recover in time.

Litton Das, however, has regained his fitness in time and has been selected in the XI.

Tawhid Hridoy, who hit a triple century against South Africa ‘A’ in Potchefstroom last month, has replaced Mushfiqur.

Bangladesh have gone with a spin-heavy side, with Nayeem Hasan joining Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam are the pace duo for the match.
