Bangladesh lost seven wickets for just 59 runs in the morning session to be bundled out for 272 in their first innings on Day 2 of the first Test against West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.
Litton Das remained stranded on 34 not out as he saw seven different partners come and go in a free fall of wickets.
Off-spinner Jomel Warrican claimed a five-wicket haul, claiming three wickets on the day, while debutant Joshua Bishop and Shamar Joseph took two wickets each.
The day began with overnight Shadman Islam completing his century, running a two off Bishop in the second delivery of the morning to get to 101 from 99.
But he didn’t stay at the crease much longer, getting trapped LBW by Bishop just one over later.
Tawhid Hridoy, who had to be stretchered off the field the previous day after cramping, returned to the middle, but his composure from the opening day didn’t, as he lost his stumps after attempting a slog across the line against Bishop.
Litton, who was unbeaten on 10 on Day 1, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz then added 32 runs to push the score past 250.
But the pair could not produce a rescue act like they have done many times before in Tests for Bangladesh, with Miraz missing a straight ball from Warrican that crashed onto his stumps.
Litton continued his lone fight on a pitch that is offering variable bounce, fending away at deliveries and slowly accumulating runs.
But the tail could not hang on at the other end, with Nayeem Hasan (five), Hasan Mahmud (six), Taijul Islam (1) and Shoriful Islam (0) all departing cheaply, as the hosts were bundled out, which ended the session a few minutes early.
Earlier, Bangladesh had resumed the day’s play on 213-3.
