Rabada fastest to 350 Test wickets as Australia crumble to 60-7 in Cape Town

Kagiso Rabada became the fastest bowler by balls delivered to take 350 Test wickets as South Africa reduced Australia to 60-7 at lunch on day five of the decisive third Test on Saturday.

Australia are chasing 288 at Newlands, and the series is level at 1-1. Cameron Green is unbeaten on 25 and Pat Cummins on nought, and the pair must survive after lunch to save the match.

Rabada struck in the opening over of the innings. Matt Renshaw fell for a duck, caught by wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton down the leg side, and Marnus Labuschagne was trapped lbw for four.

Travis Head was next, caught at gully by Marco Jansen. That dismissal gave Rabada his 350th Test wicket and left him with figures of 3-14.

The paceman reached the milestone in 13,808 deliveries. That is fewer than compatriot Dale Steyn, who needed 14,719, and Pakistan’s Waqar Younis, who took 14,905.

Australia’s morning worsened when first-innings centurion Josh Inglis was run out for four, attempting a quick single.

The wearing pitch then offered turn, and spinner Simon Harmer exploited it, finishing the session with 3-5.

Harmer removed Alex Carey for two, with Jansen taking a sharp catch at backward point as the batter attempted a reverse sweep.

Cooper Connolly followed for a two-ball duck, caught by Rickelton. Harmer then claimed Mitchell Starc, also for nought, caught by Marques Ackerman at short leg.

South Africa are now within three wickets of victory, which would lift them above Australia to the top of the Test world rankings for the first time since January 2016.
