Ex-BCB directors Fahim, Nazmul to lead NCP’s National Sports Alliance

Staff Correspondent

Former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) directors Nazmul Abedeen Fahim and M Nazmul Islam are set to lead the National Citizen Party’s (NCP) new wing, the National Sports Alliance, an NCP central committee member said on Sunday.

Fahim will be the convener while Nazmul will be the member secretary of the new wing, according to the committee member.

The launching ceremony for the new committee will be held at the 3D Seminar Hall of the Krishibid Institute Bangladesh in Khamarbari, Farmgate on Monday afternoon.

Both Fahim and Nazmul were prominent directors of the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led committee, which was disbanded by the National Sports Council (NSC) citing “massive irregularities” in the BCB polls where it was elected. Neither is part of BCB’s current committee, led by Tamim Iqbal.

Fahim served as a senior vice-president in that committee, chaired the cricket operations committee, and also oversaw the women’s wing.

Fahim has been a well-known figure in Bangladesh cricket for decades. He has served the BCB as a coach, was the national game development manager from 2008-2017, headed the women’s wing from 2017-2019, and was a BPL member secretary in 2024.

Meanwhile, Nazmul was the chairman of the finance committee during Bulbul’s tenure. He was temporarily removed from his position after local cricketers staged a protest against him during the previous Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) over a controversial comment, but was reinstated around 10 days later.
