Two crude bombs exploded in succession near the roundabout of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital late Friday night.

The explosions occurred around 11:45pm on Friday, said Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Uttara Zone.

Confirming the incident this morning, he said unidentified individuals threw two crude bombs from the flyover running over the airport roundabout, causing the explosions.

No casualties were reported in the incident.

Earlier on Friday, police recovered 20 crude bombs, 41 torch sticks, around two litres of kerosene oil and soft cork sheets during a raid in the Ansar Camp area of Paikpara under Mirpur Model Police Station in the capital.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted the raid at around 12:10am on Thursday (November 5).

Following the recovery, police informed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Special Response Unit (SRU).

At around 1:45am, members of the SRU's trained Bomb Disposal Unit arrived at the scene, took the necessary safety measures and neutralised the crude bombs following established procedures.

Police said investigation and operations were continuing to identify those involved and bring them to justice.
