The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has projected a revenue deficit of around Tk88,000 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26, even as overall tax collection shows strong year-on-year growth, said a press release.

According to NBR data, the revenue collected in the first 11 months of FY2025-26 reached Tk3,60,642 crore, 10% higher than the same period of FY2024-25 and the highest in the country’s history.

As of June 20, total revenue collection stood at Tk3,89,953 crore, which is Tk19,000 crore higher than the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Despite this upward trend, the revenue authority has revised its target concerns, saying the actual collection is expected to reach Tk4,15,000 crore by the end of June, falling significantly short of the original target of Tk5,03,000 crore, which would still be Tk43,157 crore higher than the last fiscal year.

To accelerate revenue mobilisation, the board has formed three dedicated task forces comprising field-level officials from the Income Tax, VAT, and Customs wings.

These task forces are actively working on boosting compliance and speeding up the resolution of pending appeals, tribunal cases, High Court and Supreme Court matters, as well as alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes.
