Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Tuesday said the government would soon begin promoting assistant teachers to the post of head teacher after the disposal of a High Court case, paving the way for filling vacant head teacher positions in government primary schools.
Responding to a written question from ruling party lawmaker Khairul Kabir Khokon (Narsingdi-1) in Parliament, the minister said a writ petition regarding the promotion of head teachers, filed with the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, had recently been disposed of.
Milon said vacant head teacher positions would be filled through the promotion process once the promotions were completed.
He said under the previous recruitment rules, 65 percent of head teacher posts were filled through promotion. Under the new recruitment rules, however, 80 percent of the posts would be filled through promotion.
The minister said although the new recruitment rules had already been formulated, the promotion process remained suspended due to the pending court case.
