The verification and scrutiny of information for candidates selected for appointment as assistant teachers at government primary schools will continue until October 1, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said on Monday.

He made the remarks while responding to journalists at the beginning of a meeting of the National Steering Committee at the Secretariat ahead of World Teachers' Day 2026.

Milon said 817 selected candidates are currently at different stages of verification and that the process would be completed by October 1. If any candidate does not receive an appointment letter by then, the case will be reviewed and the letter issued in phases, he said.

“The verification and posting of candidates selected for primary teacher recruitment are currently underway and will conclude by October 1. If anyone does not receive an appointment letter by that time, it will be issued following a subsequent review,” he said.

He said only qualified candidates would be appointed and that the verification process was being conducted transparently in accordance with government regulations.

The government is also working to address brain drain by adopting a “reverse brain drain” policy, Milon said. Under the policy, efforts are being made to bring back talented students and teachers who have gone abroad by expanding opportunities for advanced education and research in the country.

On teacher transfers, he said an online system is being introduced for transfers of both primary school teachers and teachers at private MPO-listed institutions.

He added that some administrative transfers had been coordinated to address the posting needs of primary school teachers currently serving on attachment.

On the re-scrutiny of SSC examination scripts, Milon said 4,585 students who had previously failed have now passed, while 3,079 students newly secured GPA-5. The grades or GPAs of 27,836 students were also revised following the re-scrutiny.

He said examiners responsible for discrepancies in the results had been identified and would be held accountable and provided with training.

During the briefing, Prime Minister's Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education Mahdi Amin announced that 100 distinguished teachers from different levels across the country would be honoured this year on World Teachers' Day.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to attend the Teachers' Day event, he said.

Mahdi said the government was working to ensure the professional dignity of teachers.

The meeting was attended by Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives; National Parliament Whips Rakibul Islam Bakul and Mia Nuruddin Apu; Abdul Khaleque, Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division; Md Daud Mia, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Division; and Jasmin Nahar, Secretary of Primary and Mass Education.
