Taylor Swift won Video of the Year for The Fate of Ophelia at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 27, with Snoop Dogg hosting the ceremony.

The ceremony brought the music industry’s biggest stars together at the Los Angeles venue for a night centred on the year’s most recognised music videos and performances. Alongside the competitive categories, the event also featured special honours, with Nirvana receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and Swift becoming the first recipient of the newly introduced Artist Director Honors.

Swift’s The Fate of Ophelia won Video of the Year, beating videos by Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, GENER8ION featuring Yung Lean, Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter.

The singer also won Best Direction for Opalite, while The Fate of Ophelia was nominated in several other categories, including Best Pop, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Choreography.

Lisa won Best Pop for Dream featuring Kentaro Sakaguchi, while Madonna emerged with multiple awards. She won Artist of the Year and Best Dance for Confessions II - The Film, as well as Best Cinematography and Best Choreography for the same video.

BTS won Song of the Year and Best K-Pop for Swim. Cardi B featuring Kehlani won Best Hip-Hop for Safe, while Bruno Mars received Best R&B for I Just Might.

Olivia Rodrigo won Best Alternative for The Cure, while Bad Bunny took Best Latin for NUEVAYoL. Ella Langley won Best Country for Choosin’ Texas, and Sienna Spiro received Best New Artist.

Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter won Best Collaboration for Bring Your Love. PinkPantheress featuring Zara Larsson won Best Art Direction for Stateside + Zara Larsson, while Carpenter took Best Editing for House Tour.

Ariana Grande won Best Visual Effects for Hate That I Made You Love Me. Other nominees in the category included Jisoo and Zayn, Madonna, PinkPantheress and Raye featuring Hans Zimmer.

Outside the competitive categories, Nirvana received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Swift’s Artist Director Honors marked the introduction of the new award, which recognised her work as a director.
