Zahara Jolie-Pitt, the eldest daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has received court approval to legally change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie, becoming the third of the former couple’s children to drop Pitt from the surname.

According to PEOPLE, a judge approved the 21-year-old’s request on Monday.

Pitt and Jolie, who married on August 23, 2014, share six children: Maddox, 25, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 18. The couple separated in 2016, following 12 years together, while their divorce was finalised in December 2024.

Zahara is not the first of the Jolie-Pitt children to seek a change to the family name. Shiloh was the first to file for a legal name change, submitting the paperwork on her 18th birthday on May 27, 2024. Her request was approved the following August.

Maddox also requested to drop Pitt from his name earlier this year, seeking to be known as Maddox Chivan Jolie. His name change was approved on September 14.

PEOPLE reported that Vivienne petitioned to change her name in July after turning 18. Her court hearing is scheduled for November 2.

Knox has not made a permanent legal name change, although he reportedly dropped Pitt from his name on his high school diploma.

Pitt and Jolie’s separation followed a family flight on a private jet on September 14, 2016. Within days, Jolie filed for divorce, while Pitt was investigated following allegations that he had become “physical” and “verbally abusive” with one of his children in view of the others.

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services and the FBI found no abuse.

In August, Pitt spoke to Esquire about a period during which he experienced suicidal ideation while dealing with family-related issues. He said he had never been suicidal in general and described himself as a “congenital optimist”.

Pitt, 62, has been dating Ines de Ramon since December 2023.
