Fast & Furious TV series set for 2028 premiere

Waadaa Desk

US television network Peacock has officially ordered a TV series based on the long-running Fast & Furious film franchise, with the show targeting a 2028 premiere and franchise star Vin Diesel on board as an executive producer.

The series order follows Diesel’s announcement of the project’s development at NBCUniversal’s upfronts in May. Diesel had said four shows were in the pipeline, although Peacock later clarified that only one was actively being developed.

Mike Daniels, known for Sons of Anarchy and NBC’s forthcoming Rockford Files remake, and Wolfe Coleman of 9-1-1: Lone Star are writing the pilot and will serve as showrunners.

They will executive produce alongside Diesel and Sam Vincent of One Race, Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan. Moritz and Original Film also produce the Fast & Furious film franchise.

Further details, including the potential title of the series, are being kept under wraps.

Peacock is targeting a 2028 premiere, which would coincide with the release of the next film in the franchise, Fast Forever. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on March 17, 2028.

The Fast & Furious franchise currently spans 11 films released over 25 years. The movies have earned more than $7 billion at the worldwide box office and have also inspired theme park attractions, video games and other merchandise.

Peacock’s announcement comes alongside news that the streamer is developing The Chairman, a drama series starring Eddie Murphy. The project comes from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner and would mark Murphy’s first ongoing scripted series role since he left ‘Saturday Night Live’ in 1984.
