Cinematographer Barkat Hossain Polash received the Mishuk Munier Memorial Award 2026 for his work on Nakshi Kanthar Zamin at a ceremony held at Bengal Shilpalay in Dhanmondi on Saturday.

The award ceremony was jointly organised by the Lily-Munier Memorial Trust and the family of Mishuk Munier, bringing together journalists, filmmakers, cinematographers and cultural personalities to remember the pioneering cinematographer and broadcast journalist.

The programme began with an introductory speech by Tropa Mazumder, followed by a documentary on Munier’s life, his journey in photography and his work with filmmaker Tareque Masud. Journalist Qurratul-Ain-Tahmina, filmmaker Aka Reza Ghalib and other guests also shared their memories of Munier.

As the jury members were unable to attend, Asif Munier announced Polash as the winner. He received a crest and 100,000 taka from Bengal Foundation President Abul Khair.

Polash has worked as a cinematographer on films including Bonolota Express, Saba, Priyo Maloti, Nakshi Kanthar Zamin and Jalal’s Story. His work also includes web series such as Taqdeer, Karagar and Mohanagar.

Recalling his only encounter with Munier, Polash said, “My good fortune was that I got to see him once from a distance, during the shooting of Runway. I was just a university student then.”

He thanked the organisers and jury for encouraging filmmakers through the award and said, “Everyone, please keep me in your prayers so that I can continue to do more work.”
