Tisha addresses dispute, says suspension will not stop her career

Actress Tanjin Tisha has said she will continue working despite being suspended indefinitely by Actors’ Equity Bangladesh, insisting that she has done nothing wrong in the dispute with fellow actress Samia Akter Othoi.

In a 25-minute Facebook Live on Friday night, Tisha addressed the association’s disciplinary decision, the arbitration process and the disagreement that arose during the filming of the drama Putuler Biye in Manikganj on March 3.

Actors’ Equity Bangladesh sent separate letters to Tisha and Othoi on October 4 , informing them that their memberships had been suspended indefinitely. According to the letters, both actresses had been issued show-cause notices on July 7 but had failed to respond. The executive committee subsequently approved the suspensions following a recommendation from the association’s arbitration committee.

Tisha said the association had asked both actresses to apologise and submit video statements confirming that they had resolved their differences. However, neither submitted the requested video.

“She did not submit the video, and I could not submit mine either for some reason. I have been sent the suspension letter because I did not follow the notice. All right,” she said.

She also questioned the practice of taking professional disagreements to social media or the press, saying public accusations could damage an artiste’s reputation and career.

“People can have differences of opinion or face problems while working together. But that does not mean I should immediately go to social media or the press and disclose everything, potentially harming someone’s career,” she said.

Revisiting the incident on the set of Putuler Biye, Tisha maintained that those present had witnessed what had happened. She also referred to the drama’s scenes, suggesting that viewers could judge for themselves whether the actions in question had been improvised and whether mistreatment had taken place.

The dispute began when Othoi accused Tisha of repeatedly slapping her with excessive force during a scene that required only a light slap. Othoi claimed she had sustained injuries. Tisha denied deliberately hurting her, maintaining that her performance had followed the script and her character’s requirements.

Tisha said the association’s arbitration meeting lasted around five hours, during which representatives heard both sides and discussed the incident. She added that she still had the written notice from the meeting.

She also referred to controversies surrounding her over the past year, including the sari incident, saying she believed the truth would eventually emerge.

Despite the suspension, Tisha said she had no intention of stepping away from her work.

“Whatever obstacles I face, I will not stop. I will not give up. I can say this with such confidence because I know I have done nothing wrong,” she said.

Othoi has yet to make a fresh public statement following the association’s decision.
