The flood situation across several parts of Bangladesh has further deteriorated following days of heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides, with the death toll rising to 51.
At the same time, 267,918 families remain stranded in seven flood-hit districts, while the total number of affected people has reached 1,022,963, according to the latest situation report released by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief at 12:30pm on Sunday.
Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Senior Information Officer at the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, confirmed the matter to the media.
According to the report, Cox's Bazar recorded the highest number of fatalities at 28, including 15 local residents and 13 Rohingya refugees. Chattogram reported 13 deaths, followed by Bandarban (6), Rangamati (3) and Moulvibazar (1).
A total of 39 people have also been injured across the seven affected districts: Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Moulvibazar and Habiganj.
The ministry said flooding has affected 58 upazilas, 386 unions and 11 municipalities.
To shelter those displaced by the floods, 1,131 emergency shelters have been opened, where 44,457 people are currently staying.
The latest figures show a sharp increase in fatalities. The ministry's previous situation report, released at 6:00pm on Saturday, recorded 43 deaths.
