Spain matched the longest unbeaten run in international football history after beating France 2-0 in the World Cup semifinals on Wednesday, extending their streak to 37 matches.
Luis de la Fuente's side equalled Italy's record of 37 consecutive games without defeat, set between 2018 and 2021, and can claim the outright mark in the final on July 20.
Spain will face either England or Argentina, who meet in the second semifinal on Thursday.
The Spaniards have not lost since a 1-0 friendly defeat to Colombia in London in March 2024. Their unbeaten run began four days later with a 3-3 draw against Brazil.
The streak includes 28 victories and nine draws. Spain have scored 94 goals while conceding 28, with a 6-0 World Cup qualifying win over Turkey their biggest victory.
Spain began this World Cup with a goalless draw against Cape Verde before beating Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, Austria and Portugal without conceding.
They then edged Belgium 2-1 in the quarterfinals before defeating France 2-0 to reach the final. Spain have scored 13 goals and conceded just once at the tournament.
The unbeaten sequence counts only results after regulation or extra time, with penalty shootouts officially recorded as draws for statistical purposes.
Hence, their defeat to Portugal in the Nations League final on penalties is officially counted as a draw.
The match had ended 2-2 before the Portuguese edged them for the trophy in the shootout.
Spain coach Luis De la Fuente is also yet to lose a match in tournament football with the national side.
