Barcelona are in advanced negotiations with Arsenal over a deal to sign Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus, with the Spanish champions hopeful of finalising the transfer before the window closes on Tuesday, according to reports.

According to ESPN, talks are at a "very advanced" stage, with a deal worth in the region of 10 million euros being discussed.

Jesus could travel to Barcelona as early as Monday to complete the formalities.

The 29-year-old has fallen out of favour at Arsenal, with Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres both preferred ahead of him in the striking hierarchy.

He was left out of the squad entirely for the Community Shield victory over Manchester City and the Premier League opening day win against Coventry City.

Barcelona's pursuit of Jesus follows their failure to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, who had been their primary target this summer after the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres left them short of a recognised centre forward.

Atletico refused to negotiate, accusing Barcelona of tapping up the Argentina international, forcing the club to look elsewhere.

Napoli had also expressed interest in Jesus, but Barcelona now appear to have won the race for his signature.

The source confirmed that signing Jesus would not necessarily end their long-term interest in Alvarez.

Coach Hansi Flick has repeatedly spoken about the need for a striker this summer. Raphinha has operated as a makeshift centre forward in Barcelona's opening two LaLiga matches, scoring three goals, but Flick wants a natural number nine as an option in his squad.

Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 and has made 123 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals and providing 22 assists, including a Premier League title win last season.
