Franco Mastantuono broke a longstanding record held by Lionel Messi, becoming the youngest Argentine player to score a hat trick in Europe's top five leagues after netting three times in Fiorentina's 4-2 win over Venezia on Friday.
At 19 years and 28 days old, the on loan Real Madrid winger surpassed Messi's mark by 231 days, eclipsing a record the Barcelona legend had set with his own first hat trick, scored against Real Madrid back on March 10, 2007.
Mastantuono opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a powerful left footed strike from the edge of the box, before adding a second just over a minute later, outpacing two defenders and curling home a trademark left footed finish from a similar position.
He completed the treble in the 39th minute of the second half, benefiting from a fortunate deflection off his own face after the Venezia goalkeeper's save rebounded straight into his path and looped into the net.
The performance also made Mastantuono the youngest Fiorentina player ever to score more than once in a single match, marking a significant milestone in his first appearances for the Italian club following a season long loan move from Madrid last month.
Remarkably, his three goals against Venezia matched the entire tally he managed across 35 appearances for Real Madrid throughout last season, a period in which he struggled for regular minutes at the Bernabeu.
Venezia had taken an early lead through Akor Adams in the 22nd minute, finishing well after good build up play from American midfielder Gianluca Busio, before Mastantuono's double inside a two minute spell turned the match in Fiorentina's favour before half time.
Mateo Pellegrino added a third for the visitors midway through the second half, his second goal in as many matches, before Mastantuono completed his hat trick six minutes from time.
Antoine Hainaut struck a late consolation for Venezia, but the result left the hosts pointless at the bottom of the 20 team Serie A table, while Fiorentina moved up to 15th.
The overall record for the youngest hat trick scorer across Europe's top five leagues remains held by Italy's Silvio Piola, who achieved the feat at just 17 years and 132 days old in Serie A back in 1931.
Mastantuono first emerged as a rising talent at River Plate, making his senior debut at 16 before becoming the youngest player ever to represent Argentina's national team in June 2025. His performances prompted a move to Real Madrid later that year, in a deal worth 60 million euros that saw him beat Paris Saint Germain to his signature on a six year contract.
He struggled to establish himself at Madrid last season behind established stars such as Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham, a difficult spell that also saw him left out of Argentina's World Cup squad, before his loan move to Fiorentina this season offered him a fresh platform to showcase his ability.
