Bangladeshi-origin teenager Cavan Sullivan continued his standout rookie season at the Major League Soccer (MLS) with two goals and the visiting Philadelphia Union extended their red-hot unbeaten run to 10 games with a 5-0 victory over San Diego FC on Sunday.

The first half was nearly scoreless before Sullivan broke the deadlock in added time, to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead, extending his goal-contribution streak to seven games.

The 16-year-old was at it again in the 62nd minute when he scored from a sharp angle from the left side of goal past Ferree. It gave Sullivan the first multi-goal game of his career on his sixth tally of the season.

Cavan is now only the second player aged 16 or younger in MLS history to record a brace after Freddy Adu.

Bruno Damiani made it 3-0 in the 67th minute with a right-footed shot from the center of the box. The Union scored for a fourth time on an own goal from San Diego's Anibal Godoy in the 87th minute, before Malik Jakupovic made it 5-0 just before the final whistle.

Cavan, who will join Manchester City when he turns 18, has long been regarded as the player with the potential to be the next big thing American football.

US team head coach Mauricio Pochettino is set to announce the squad for a training camp in September-October ahead of friendlies against Peru, Chile, Mexico and Canada, and according to The New York Times, Cavan is highly likely to make the cut.

Cavan, whose maternal grandmother Sultana Alam is from Dhaka, Bangladesh, has played a starring role in Philadelphia’s resurgence in the league as his side has now registered their eighth win since the World Cup break, moving into playoff position in the Eastern Conference.

It is the second-longest active unbeaten run in MLS behind a 15-game streak from St. Louis City SC.
