The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) postponed all 24 Copa del Rey first-round matches scheduled for Wednesday after two high-speed trains collided in Toledo province, killing dozens of people.
The games were called off “as a show of respect and solidarity with all the victims”, the RFEF said, adding that new dates for the matches would be announced soon.
At least 68 people were killed and about 80 injured in the rear-end collision near Urda, regional authorities said, adding that the toll was likely to rise.
It was the second deadly accident in less than a year on the line connecting Madrid to the southern region of Andalusia. A January collision near Adamuz also killed dozens.
Rail operator Adif suspended traffic on the Madrid-Andalusia high-speed line. The disruption affected travel for several teams and their fans.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez cancelled his agenda for the day and said Spain would observe three days of mourning.
