2 more children die with suspected measles symptoms; death toll reaches 718

Two more children died with symptoms consistent with measles in the 24 hours to 8am on Tuesday, bringing Bangladesh's combined total of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 718.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) classified the latest deaths as suspected measles fatalities.

With the latest update, the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 635, while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remained unchanged at 93, the DGHS said.

A total of 866 new suspected measles cases were reported during the 24-hour period, bringing the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 101,077.

Meanwhile, 114 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, raising the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 11,965.

According to DGHS data, 84,627 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country since 10 April, of whom 80,974 have recovered.
