A government official in Barguna has been sued for allegedly forging an official letter in the name of Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal in an attempt to overturn his transfer and secure a posting in Dhaka.

Shawon Majumder Suman, assistant commissioner (land) of Barguna Sadar, was named as the principal accused in the case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. Several unidentified people were also accused.

Md Monir Hossain, director of Public Relations Sub-Division-1 at the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, filed the case yesterday.

According to the case statement, Suman allegedly fabricated a DO letter carrying the deputy speaker’s forged signature and official letterhead and used, or attempted to use, it to influence his transfer.

The letter sought to cancel his transfer from Barguna Sadar to Rangabali Upazila in Patuakhali and instead have him posted as assistant commissioner (land) in Keraniganj, Dhaka.

The alleged forgery came to light after the Parliament Secretariat examined the document and found that it had never been issued by the secretariat.

Investigators also found that the signature, language, formatting and other security features of the purported letter did not match official records, according to the complaint.

The case alleges that the forgery amounted to an attempt to fraudulently influence the government’s posting and transfer process while illegally using the identity and official documents of the Parliament Secretariat.

The complainant also raised the possibility that an organized forgery ring was behind the episode and sought a broader investigation.

Authorities have been asked to conduct digital forensic examinations of relevant mobile phones, computers and emails, trace the source from which the document was printed, and examine financial and communication records of those suspected of involvement.

The case was filed under several sections of the Penal Code covering forgery, use of forged documents, cheating and criminal conspiracy.

The purported forged letter, samples of genuine official DO letterheads and other relevant documents were submitted as evidence with the complaint.
