A petition was filed seeking to have Major General (retd) Ziaul Ahsan, an accused in a crimes against humanity case involving more than a hundred enforced disappearances and killings, transported from Keraniganj Central Jail to the International Crimes Tribunal with other detainees rather than in a separate van.

His lawyer Naznin Nahar submitted the petition to International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Wednesday.

“This is an unofficial application. It is not a case-related application,” Nahar said.

In the application, the lawyer said, “I learnt from Major General (retd.) Ziaul Ahsan on Wednesday that he is being transported from Keraniganj Central Jail to the International Crimes Tribunal separately from other detainees in a single van. The matter is concerning.

“Because, we fear that he may be deliberately harmed in some way while being transported in a separate van.”

The application further said, “In this situation, it is requested that necessary measures be taken to keep him free from the risk of loss of life by transporting him with other detainees instead of in a separate van.”
