The High Court has granted bail to former Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs State Minister Dipankar Talukdar in three separate attempted murder cases filed with Paltan Model, Bangshal and Bhatara police stations.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Syed Hasan Zubair granted him bail on Sunday (September 20), while also issuing rules in the cases.

Anabil Ananda Roy represented Talukdar, while Deputy Attorneys General Shiuli Khanam and Syeda Sazia Sharmin appeared for the state.

Sazia Sharmin later said a note had been sent to the Attorney General’s Office seeking to challenge the bail orders before the Appellate Division.

Talukdar was arrested from the capital’s Sobhanbagh area on February 10, 2025, following the fall of the Awami League government in the July mass uprising.

He was subsequently shown arrested in several other cases and placed on remand. He remains in jail.

After securing bail in five cases, police in May sought to show him arrested in three additional attempted murder cases filed with Paltan Model, Bangshal and Bhatara police stations.

Paltan Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Biman Tarafdar, Bangshal Police Station officer AKM Mahfuzul Haque and Bhatara Police Station Sub-Inspector Jyotirmoy Mandal filed the applications.

Following hearings, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam and Metropolitan Magistrates Nazmin Akter and Mohammad Ehsanul Islam ordered that Talukdar be shown arrested in the three cases.
