National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Nasiruddin Patwary on Monday attended a party event wearing a symbolic bandage over one eye to protest the eye injury suffered by NCP activist Alif Chowdhury in an attack by BNP activists in Habiganj last week.

Patwary was seen wearing the bandage at the event titled “One-point demand in the voices of martyr families and the injured”, organised by the NCP in the capital marking the second anniversary of July Uprising.

In a Facebook post, Patwary said he wore the bandage to draw public attention to Alif’s injury.

“It is not only Alif who lost an eye; our conscience has been put on trial,” he wrote.

Referring to the Habiganj attack, Patwary said many of the accused were granted bail within a short period, raising questions among people.

“Where is the rule of law? Where is justice for the crime?” he added.

The attack took place on Tuesday evening when an NCP convoy carrying Nasiruddin Patwary and Sarjis Alam came under attack while returning after attending a rally in Habiganj.

During the attack, NCP activist Alif Chowdhury suffered a serious injury to his left eye, while at least 15 other leaders and activists were also injured.

Alif later underwent surgery at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital (NIOH) in the capital, where he remains admitted.
