The National Citizens Party (NCP) has announced former interim government adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan as its mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation and Nasiruddin Patwary for Dhaka South City Corporation.
NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam MP made the announcement on Sunday, a press release sent to the media said.
The party also held a coordination meeting with potential councillor candidates from different wards of the two city corporations. Nahid chaired the meeting and provided election-related guidelines to party leaders and candidates.
He called for identifying potential councillor candidates, assessing civic problems in individual wards and maintaining regular contact with the families of those killed or injured during the July uprising.
Nahid also instructed party leaders to remain vigilant against any possible sabotage by the Awami League, which he described as a “fallen and fugitive” political force.
NCP Dhaka South city unit Convener Ishaq Sarkar and Dhaka North city unit Convener Ariful Islam Adib, along with central and city-level leaders, attended the meeting.
