Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister's Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has accused India of weaving a web of conspiracy centred around ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Rizvi made the remarks while speaking at a rally organised by the Muktijoddha Dal in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday.

“You have given shelter to a bloodthirsty prime minister who was responsible for the deaths of 1,400 children, young people, students and workers. The Bangladesh government has repeatedly asked you to hand her over, but you have not done so,” he said, addressing India.

“It is very clear that, behind the scenes, you (India) are weaving a web of conspiracy centred around Sheikh Hasina,” Rizvi said.

He alleged that numerous people who opened fire on and killed pro-democracy activists have fled to India and are staying there.

Rizvi referred to a former army major who had been accused of involvement in the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“He fled to India for a long time. Later, he was detained there and handed over to Sheikh Hasina, and he was tried here. So, if you could hand over that major, why are you not handing over those who killed 1,400 people and shed their blood?” he asked.

The BNP acting secretary general also questioned the technical glitch at an Adani power plant a day after Tarique Rahman announced that he would not attend the BRICS summit in India.

“The very next day after he decided not to go, it broke down! Do you need to pass the Bar or earn a PhD from a university to understand what happened? We understand that,” he added.

The senior BNP leader also accused India of providing shelter to many top criminals and killers.

“Will those who speak in the interests of Bangladesh be subjected to killings?” he asked.

“I would not have said this. But the chief minister of one of your own states has said that the central government of India was involved in the killing of Hadi in Bangladesh,” he said.
