Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Mirpur Zone in Dhaka staged a protest march on Saturday against the vandalism of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1, demanding an investigation and punishment of those responsible.

The procession began at the Shah Ali Mazar Gate and ended at the Mirpur-1 roundabout, where Jamaat leaders held a brief rally.

Jamaat Central Executive Council member and Assistant Secretary of its Dhaka North City unit Mahfuzur Rahman addressed the rally as the chief guest.

Central Majlis-e-Shura member and Dhaka city publicity and media secretary Ataur Rahman Sarker attended as a special guest. City Majlis-e-Shura members Dr Moin Uddin, Abdullah Muaz and Monirul Islam Mridha were also present.

Mahfuzur Rahman condemned the reported attack on the healthcare centre, saying it had been providing health services to disadvantaged people for around a decade.

He questioned the role of the authorities during the incident and called for a proper investigation to establish what happened and bring those responsible to justice.

“Where was the government administration? Or are we supposed to believe that this attack was carried out after managing the government and administration?” he said.

Mahfuzur also warned against targeting institutions that provide services to poor and disadvantaged people.

“Those who oppress the 180 million people will have their hands broken,” he said.

The protest was organised following reports of an attack, vandalism and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1.
