The National Citizen Party (NCP) on Sunday announced a weeklong protest and public outreach campaign in Dhaka against rising fuel and commodity prices, law and order concerns, recruitment irregularities and corruption.
The campaign will begin on October 23, followed by a protest at Shahbagh on October 30, according to decisions taken at a meeting of the party's Political Council, its highest policymaking body.
NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam chaired the meeting, while Member Secretary Akhter Hossen conducted the proceedings.
Nahid will inaugurate the campaign, which will include leaflet distribution and public outreach activities across different parts of the capital.
Senior NCP leaders will participate throughout the week.
The party said the campaign would focus on deteriorating law and order, public safety, increased fuel prices, rising costs of essential commodities, recruitment-related corruption and the alleged sale of government jobs.
The October 30 protest at Shahbagh will be jointly organised by the party's Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units.
The Political Council also finalised the restructuring of the NCP's central committee and the distribution of responsibilities among its leaders.
The reconstituted committee will be announced by October 13.
The party also decided to announce candidates for local government elections in another 100 upazilas and municipalities next week.
Preparations to finalise candidates for the upcoming Union Parishad elections will also be accelerated.
Ahead of Durga Puja, the NCP said its leaders and affiliated organisations would work to help maintain security at Puja venues and communal harmony across the country.
Senior leaders will visit Puja venues in their respective parliamentary constituencies and exchange greetings with members of the Hindu community.
The meeting was attended by Political Council members Hasnat Abdullah MP, Sarjis Alam, Nasiruddin Patwary, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Abdullah Al Amin MP, Arif Islam Adib, Sarwar Tushar, Nusrat Tabassum MP, Ali Ahsan Junaid and Saleh Uddin Sifat.
