Iran launches drones, missiles at Kuwait and Bahrain after US strikes

UNB/AP

Kuwait and Bahrain said on Sunday that Iran launched drones and missiles toward their territories overnight following fresh US airstrikes on Iranian military targets.

The latest exchange of attacks in the Persian Gulf has added new pressure to the preliminary agreement between Iran and the United States aimed at reaching a lasting end to the conflict.

Both Gulf nations strongly condemned the Iranian attacks.

However, officials did not immediately say whether any targets had been hit or if there was any damage.

The US military's Central Command said it carried out strikes on Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities and mine-laying capabilities.

The US said the strikes came after a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker, Kiku, was attacked at sea early Saturday.

The tanker was carrying crude oil for Qatar's state-owned energy company. Qatar has been playing a key role in mediating talks between Iran and the United States.
