Hunter Biden told BBC’s “Newsnight” that his father, former US President Joe Biden, has cancer that has spread to his bones and elsewhere.

“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden said in an interview posted online Friday, describing the illness as “very painful” and “very debilitating in many respects.” A spokesman for the 83-year-old Democrat declined to comment on the interview on Saturday.

Biden revealed in May 2025, less than four months after leaving the White House, that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.

His spokesman said in October that Biden was undergoing radiation and hormone therapy. Biden, who was the oldest person to win the US presidency when he was elected in 2020, faced scrutiny over his physical health and mental acuity during his 2021-2025 presidency.

He attended the dedication of Barack Obama’s presidential library in Chicago in June. Biden served as Obama’s vice president from 2009 to 2017. His presidential memoir is scheduled for release on November 17.
