Celebrity lookalikes are nothing new, but one Canadian singer has found an unusually adorable doppelgänger — a rescue cat with an uncanny resemblance to her.

From Freddie Mercury and Ron Perlman to Adam Driver and Anya Taylor-Joy, celebrities have often been compared with random cats online. But the latest feline lookalike to capture social media’s attention is Avril Lavigne — or rather, a two-year-old rescue cat named after the Canadian pop-punk star.

The Surrey Animal Resource Centre in Surrey, British Columbia, recently shared a photo of the cat on Facebook after naming her Avril. One look at the image was enough for social media users to spot the resemblance between the feline and Lavigne, particularly the singer’s signature dark, smoky eye makeup.

The cat’s expression also bears a striking similarity to Lavigne’s appearance during her early years of fame.

The animal shelter appeared to embrace the comparison, writing in its post: “While this Avril doesn’t play guitar, she has some pretty awesome eyeliner and is ready to rock your world with her awesome purrrsonality.”

The post quickly went viral, drawing a stream of jokes and cat-themed puns from amused social media users.

Lavigne rose to international fame in the early 2000s with her pop-punk style, and her heavy eye makeup became one of her most recognisable features.

Days after the photo attracted widespread attention online, the Surrey Animal Resource Centre updated its post with some good news: Avril the cat had officially been adopted.

The feline celebrity appears to have retained her online following, with her new owner reportedly creating an Instagram account for her under the name “Avril Feligne”.

For a cat whose resemblance to a pop star turned her into an overnight internet sensation, it seems Avril has already found her happy ending.
