Israeli airstrikes on a village in southern Lebanon killed at least nine people on Monday, including women and children, while Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed they had shot down a Saudi reconnaissance aircraft in Yemen.
The Israeli air force carried out two strikes early Monday on the southern Lebanese village, killing at least nine people, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
The strikes came amid renewed tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
The ministry said one strike hit a building, killing eight people, including a child and two women, and wounding 11 others, including four children and two women.
A second strike targeted a car, killing a paramedic from the Lebanese Islamic Risala Scout Association and wounding two others, the ministry said.
The Iran-backed Houthis on Monday claimed to have shot down a Saudi armed reconnaissance aircraft in northern Yemen as fighting with Yemeni government forces escalated.
Houthi military spokesman Brig Gen Yahya Saree said the aircraft was detected in the airspace over Jawf province and belonged to Saudi Arabia. He said it was carrying out “hostile actions”.
The Associated Press could not independently verify the claim.
Saree also said three Saudi reconnaissance drones had been downed in the previous 24 hours, including one detected Monday morning in Bayda province.
