State guard of honour accorded to Mustafa Monwar, thousands bid farewell

Artist and cultural personality Mustafa Monwar was accorded a state guard of honour on Tuesday as people from all walks of life paid their final respects to him at the Central Shaheed Minar.

His body was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar, where admirers, colleagues and members of the public gathered to pay their last respects to the Ekushey Padak-winning artist. It was later taken to the Central Mosque of the University of Dhaka, where his second janaza was held.

Earlier in the morning, the first janaza for the veteran artist and puppeteer was held on the premises of the Bangladesh Television (BTV) headquarters in Rampura.

The body will next be taken to the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka, where Mustafa Monwar began his professional career. He will later be laid to rest at Banani Graveyard.
