'July Women' documentary to premiere at Queen Mary University

Updated on

'July Women', a documentary chronicling the experiences of women who took part in the July Uprising, will be screened at Queen Mary University of London on 9 July.

Directed by filmmaker Raka Noshin Nawar and produced by the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum, the documentary highlights the courage, resilience and solidarity of women who participated in the movement, according to a Facebook post published on the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum page.

Through first-hand accounts, it portrays the experiences of women on the streets during the uprising, documenting their struggles, resistance and contributions to one of the country's most significant political movements in recent history.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring eyewitnesses to the July 2024 uprising and Bangladeshi students currently living in the United Kingdom. Participants will reflect on their personal experiences, memories and the lasting significance of the movement.

The event is scheduled to take place from 7.15pm to 8pm.

The July Uprising was marked by widespread student-led protests that rapidly evolved into a nationwide movement demanding political change, culminating in the ousting of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Women played a prominent role throughout the demonstrations, serving not only as protesters but also as organisers, volunteers and frontline participants.

Their involvement has since become an important part of the broader narrative of the uprising, with growing efforts to document and preserve their stories through films, exhibitions and public archives.
