Ex-MP Salam Murshedy, 12 others indicted over grabbing govt property
A Dhaka court on Monday framed charges against 13 people, including former lawmaker Abdus Salam Murshedy, in a case filed over the alleged grabbing of 27 kathas of government land in the capital's Gulshan-2 area.
Judge Md Abdus Salam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 passed the order, officially initiating the trial. The court also set August 19 for recording the depositions of the witnesses.
The other accused in the case are former Rajuk chairman Humayun Khadem, former Rajuk engineer M Azizul Haque, former Rajuk member (Estate) Lt Col (Retd) M Nurul Haque, former Rajuk director Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan, former Rajuk deputy director (Estate) Md Azharul Islam, former Rajuk superintendent Md Habib Ullah, former assistant secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Abdus Sobhan, former section assistant Md Mahbubul Haque, and two brothers from Ramu in Cox's Bazar — Mir Mohammad Hasan and Mir Md Nurul Afsar.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case on February 6, 2024, against 11 people, including the former Rajuk chairman. The ACC filed the charge sheet on December 31, 2024, against 13 people, including Murshedy.
Abdus Salam Murshedy was arrested on October 1, 2024, and has been in jail since then.
