Man sentenced to death for rape, murder of 5-years old in Noakhali

A Noakhali court on Monday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in 2022.

Judge Farzana Akter of the Noakhali Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict.

The condemned convict is Shahadat, 26, son of Babul Hossain of Megha village in Chatkhil upazila of the district. The court also fined him Tk 100,000.

According to the prosecution, Asma, the daughter of Maulana Shahjahan of Megha village, went missing on 24 March 2022.

Police recovered her body from a septic tank nine days after she disappeared.

Police later arrested Shahadat, who gave a confessional statement before the court, admitting that he had raped Asma in an abandoned house, strangled her to death and dumped her body in the septic tank.
